The 780B instrument is equipped with both a reference HDMI source and a reference HDMI sink interface allowing you to test audio, video and HDMI protocols—HDCP, EDID, CEC & infoframes—of any type of HDMI device: sources, repeaters and sinks. The 780B builds on the 780A but adds a larger—7 inch—color touch display and features a real time status bar providing at-a-glance status for the HDMI Tx and HDMI Rx ports.

The 780B provides a variety of standard patterns and formats including deep color and HDMI 3D formats suitable for routine video pattern testing and calibration of HDMI high definition and ultra high definition displays and TVs.

Because the 780 test instrument has both HDMI output and HDMI input ports, you can test your HDMI cables and systems with splitters, extenders and switches even when already installed on site using the Frame Compare feature.

The 780B’s portability makes it ideal for your bench and for use in the field. A color touch display makes the 780B instrument easy and convenient to use and when testing a source device you can view the incoming video image and metadata on the built-in LCD.

The following is list of some of key the 780 standard features and benefits. Please refer to the 780B Data Sheet for a list of all features and benefits.

Battery powered / small form factor – The small size, battery power and operation through the embedded touch screen make the 780 convenient to use in all applications, in the field, on your test bench or in the R&D lab.

HDMI Out (Tx) port – Supports the emulation a known-good HDMI source device up to 300MHz to test HDMI sinks and downstream HDMI networks including HDMI 2.0 sinks with 4:2:0 pixel encoding.

Extensive format and test pattern library – Enables you to test a variety of video test cases on a high end HDTV including deep color and 3D.

Protocol tests on HDMI sinks – Enables you to verify proper operation of HDCP authentication, EDID and CEC on HDMI sinks.

Audio test tones and clips for uncompressed LPCM and compressed formats – Enables you to verify that an HDMI audio rendering device supports various audio formats including LPCM and Dolby and DTS compressed formats including Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio.

HDMI In (Rx) port – Supports the emulation a known-good HDMI sink device to test HDMI sources and upstream HDMI networks including HDMI 2.0 sinks with 4:2:0 pixel encoding.

Network Analyzer – Enables you to run diagnostic tests to verify proper timing, infoframes metadata, HDCP authentication, EDID structure and content and CEC messages on HDMI sources, sinks and entire HDMI distribution networks.

Installer tests – Enables you to quickly diagnose HDMI interoperability problems through an automated and simplified interface. Run tests upstream toward the source, downstream toward the sink or test both upstream and downstream simultaneously with the “Link” test. The utility also enables you to test on both sides of a repeater.

The following is list of some of key the 780 optional features.

HDMI Cable and Link Test – Enables you to run functional tests on HDMI cables and HDMI distribution devices and networks.

Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) – Monitoring when emulating HDMI source or sink – Monitor the HDCP and EDID transactions on the DDC and also monitor hot plug related events while the 780 is emulating a known-good source device, a known-good display device or both.

Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) – Passive Monitoring – Monitor the HDCP and EDID transactions on the DDC and also monitor hot plug related events while the 780 is passively monitoring and HDMI system comprised of multiple devices. Requires an additional hardware module with four (4) additional HDMI ports.

Auto EDID Test – Verify Source Device Handling of EDIDs through an automated test. Specify the set of test EDIDs to emulate in the 780C HDMI or HDBaseT input port. Test verifies the incoming video type, timing, colorimetry, sampling and Video Identification Code and flags improper handling. A report can be generated to allow sharing the results with colleagues or for later viewing.

THX Test Pattern Pack – The THX test patterns enable A/V professionals to calibrate the displays on high-end 3D-capable HDTVs to match the same standards as those used in post-production facilities worldwide.

Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) Test Pattern Pack – The ISF test patterns enable A/V professionals to calibrate the displays on modern high-end HDTVs.

China Res Test Pattern Package – The ChinaRes test pattern is specified by the National Testing and Inspection Center for Radio and TV Products of China. The image pack includes both a standard definition aspect ratio (shown right) and a high definition aspect ratio. This test pattern is supported at: 1920×1080, 1280×720, 720×576 and 720×480 resolutions.
