Quantum Data™ 882 Series Instrument Approved by VESA® for DisplayPort™ Link Layer Compliance Testing
Elgin IL – February 18, 2009 – Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, announced that their 882E test instrument has been approved by VESA for testing link layer compliance on DisplayPort source devices and products against the requirements of the DisplayPort Certified Logo Program. The VESA approval was against Version 1.1 of the DisplayPort Compliance Test Specification.
The link layer test application-developed in close collaboration with leading silicon vendors- enables manufacturers of DisplayPort devices to bring fully compliant source products to market faster and without interoperability issues.
“Developers working to bring new video technologies such as DisplayPort to market require test tools to help ensure interoperability and compliance,” remarked Bill Lempesis executive director, VESA. “Approval of the Quantum Data 882E for link layer compliance test is a welcome addition to this set of tools.”
The VESA-approved link layer compliance test for source devices, is another piece of a comprehensive set of solutions for DisplayPort testing. VESA recently approved the 882E for link layer compliance testing of DisplayPort sink devices. The 882E also provides an HDCP compliance test application which leverages the expertise Quantum Data gained through successful DCP approval of the HDMI version of the HDCP compliance test.
Last year Quantum Data collaborated with Agilent Technologies in the development of a DisplayPort test solution that fully automates physical layer testing of the DisplayPort main link for sink- and source-device testing.
To complement the compliance test solutions, the 882E provides an Auxiliary Channel Analyzer which enables developers to examine the details of transactions occurring over the DisplayPort Aux Channel. This useful analysis tool monitors MCCS commands, EDID reads, link training and HDCP handshaking during normal operation or during compliance testing.
Operation of the link layer compliance test is simple. Test personnel define the capabilities of the device under test through a form and then initiate the test suite through a GUI application. Once initiated, the tests run continuously until completion without requiring user interaction. The Auxiliary Channel Analyzer can be used to monitor the link layer transactions during the compliance test to provide additional insight into any failures that might occur. When a test series has been completed, the application issues a report that provides summary pass/fail results for each individual test and extensive detail about each distinct step for all tests. Reports can be viewed online, transferred over a network or printed.
